Practical Verification Guide
Petroleum Verification Guide
Independent verification helps establish whether important petroleum-sector information can be supported before it becomes the basis for payment, credit, contracting, procurement, investment or operational dependence.
This guide explains when to verify, what information to provide and how to interpret an outcome—without disclosing LicenseCheck’s proprietary internal methodology.
Step 1 — Decide When to Verify
Verify Before the Risk Becomes Exposure
Step 2 — Identify What You Need to Rely On
The Scope Should Match the Decision
Verification is not one universal checklist. The correct scope depends on the information you need to rely on and the commercial risk of the decision.
Company/CIPC verification forms a standard component whenever a legal entity is being assessed.
Step 3 — Prepare the Request
Provide Enough Information to Identify the Subject
You do not need to design the verification process yourself. Provide identifying information and explain the decision or claim you need assessed; LicenseCheck will confirm the appropriate scope.
Step 4 — Read the Outcome Correctly
The Result Must Be Read With Its Scope and Limitations
Supported Within Scope
The relevant information could be supported within the agreed scope and evidence reasonably available at the time.
Discrepancy Identified
One or more material details do not align and may require clarification, enhanced verification or further due diligence.
Unable to Verify
Sufficient evidence was not available to support the relevant point within scope. This does not automatically mean the information is false.
Verification Is One Part of Due Diligence
Independent verification can reduce information risk, but it does not replace legal, financial, contractual, technical, environmental, tax, customs or regulatory due diligence appropriate to the transaction.
